In the year 2000, after 33 years of breeding and showing only American bred shepherds in the AKC ring,
we purchased our first German import. Since then we have imported others for the sport, for breeding
purposes and have even helped a few friends import dogs for their breeding programs too.

In the summer of 2002. we exhibited in our first German show under German judges, just 15 short months
ago. On the weekend of Nov. 5-7, 2003, we competed in
our first North American Sieger Show.

There are more than five German Shepherd dog clubs here on Long Island. Having lived here since 1974,
we know most of the breeders and exhibitors and have competed with the best of these.

The 2003 NASS was the biggest and most prestigeous show ever held in the USA, more than 7 nations
(including Germany) came here to compete with their dogs ... including all the top kennels in US.

Unfortunately, Long Island was only represented by three German Shepherd breeders. These two other
breeders, like us, believed enough in the quality of their dogs to compete with the worlds best. We salute
their efforts. The entry money alone was $100 a dog! This was not some cheap lottery ticket where
"anyone with a dollar and a dream" might enter and test their dogs under public scrunity. These were good
dogs and proud owners.

Pat and I are proud to say, that Phoenix Shepherds, Corp., now has the highest ranked imported German
Shepherds living on Long Island! This is not just one dog either. All six dogs we exhibited placed in the top
half of their classes! Even little Corrina, just 6 months and 9 days old led the entire second group of
puppies for four straight passes around a large ring that measured 50 x 50 yards with 65 year old Frank
on the lead!

Please keep in mind when buying a dog from a breeder that BOTH the mother and father have to have
quality breeding to create a quality pup. If a breeder competes successfully, their walls will attest to
their success by being filled with trophys and ribbons. No one really wants to hide their success ...
especially when selling their product.

This is so important especially when selecting your next pet. You and your family will hopefully spend the
next 10 years of your life with this dog and you want it to have the best temperment possible. The term
"pet" should never have to mean poor quality or bad breeding.

It is only through competition and rigorous standards that the temperment bred into the parents will most
likely show up in your pet. Only those breeders, who like ourselves, consistantly compete in varied competitions,
can truely say, "We breed the best!"

Bursting with the dedicated pride of accomplishment, we now can add, that at the NASS 2004 Sieger
show, with Zamp von Steilen Ufer adding the VA rating to his titles, though Enzo in 2003 was Long Island's
highest ranked German Shepherd at a National event, this year he is #2 on Long Island! That means, we now
own the #1 and #2 Nationally ranked Long Island German Shepherd males. Since we no longer breed our
males to outside breeders females living on the Island unless they are owned or co-owned by us, buying a puppy
from someone elses stud dog will assure you at best.... of having a 3rd rate sire.

However, our Barrus will probably contest that # 3 spot with you too. In 2004, after getting his SchH 2
title and getting a V rating in Germany in the process, two of his offspring here at home, from american bred
mothers, did quite well in the AKC ring. A male actually went BOB from the classes over an all american
AKC Champion! A female, actually took 3 Reserve placings. What makes this so fantastic is that both these
animals were under 18 months of age!

Choices ??? Not if proven quality is high on your list when selecting the breeder for buying your next
puppy........
